Looking for a short story about a boy who disappeared

I remember a story about a boy and his family visiting an historic building that concludes with the boy having disappeared and with a feather drifting down a stairwell.
It might not b a feather falling but a bell ringing, and not a stairwell but something else entirely, like the apse of a church. I remember my story being in an anthology of horror fiction put out with the same kind of cover as the Dover paperbacks of Andrew Lang's Fairy Books, though that also is probably wrong. Silent Snow, Secret Snow might have been in the same anthology. Oh, hell, now my brain is chasing rabbits down a culvert. Help.

Response by poster: Sorry to threadsit, but there was an echo in the story.
