Vague Memory of a Childhood Book!

Please check out these barely-remembered details of a book I read probably in the 1970's

The main character was a girl named Ruthie. She was Jewish and lived in NYC I believe (but am not positive). It's possible/likely that the setting for the book was earlier than the 1970's - could have maybe been turn of the century or 1940's.

That's all I've got. Bueller? Anyone?

Posssibly Ruthie by Norma Simon, published 1968?

Another description of it here: "Staying with friends helped Ruthie's worry about her mother in the hospital, but the only cure for some things is growing up, which hurts, in itself; Brooklyn during the 1930's."
