What New York novel has this opening

A while ago I started reading a mid-20th century novel. In the opening, narrator talked about a time when he was so young and confident he assumed one day Manhattan streets like Lexington Ave. would be named after him. I think it was a book about writing or the movie business. What book is this that I am trying to remember?

Could it possibly be The Last Tycoon? Don't have the book in front of me, but I believe part of it is set in NYC.
