Have you taken any cool crafty classes in Chicago?

Think stained glass, glass blowing, welding, leather craft, screen printing, etc. I already know about Lill Street, Penguin Foot, the Parks Department and Chicago School of Leather. Is Discovery Center legit? Have you taken anything rad?

Chicago Mosaic School I dream of being able to take a traditional Roman mosaic class at this school. So jealous of you.

The Chicago Public Library has a Makers Lab that sometimes does workshops. I did a little laser cut vinyl sticker workshop there (it was a couple hours long and either free or like one dollar or two for materials), and they took you through the software and equipment process. It was fun and I got a cool laptop sticker out of it!

I've taken 2 classes at the Chicago Mosaic school linked above, and they were both great (table mosaic, and glass-on-glass, which is similar to stained glass but much easier and fun, imo). Also took a multi-media art class at the the Oak Park Art League that was fun.

CIADC is great, I’ve done woodworking and a friend rated their metalworking class highly.

There’s a weaving school around somewhere that I really wish I had the time to try.

I enjoyed the basket weaving class I took at the Chicago Weaving School , and a friend found the love of her crafty life in their loom weaving classes.

I've taken some classes in traditional drawing/painting at The Palette & Chisel. There's also an informal printmaking studio.

Haven't taken anything at The Bridgeport Art Center, but looks like they have lots of offerings. (I've been to some open houses there, the ceramics place looked pretty impressive.)

I haven't taken any classes here yet, but pre-pandemic I read about a shoe making class in an arts building on Ravenswood that sounded interesting; I believe it's this one: chicagoschoolofshoemaking.com
