Can anyone identify this plant or fungus remains?

I found my dog eating this in our backyard but we cannot figure out what it is or where it came from
I found my dog eating this mysterious rotted plant / fungus this morning. I had zero clue what it was so I had him vomit it up with hydrogen peroxide (he is doing fine now after being sad for a bit). But neither my roommate or I could identify it. It looks like some sort of plant remains but I also was worried it could be a mushroom or fungus. We don’t know where it came from. Can anyone identify it? photo of mystery item

Given the shape (particularly the curve and the point at the end) and your location, I wonder whether it's a piece of palm "bark".
Is it hard & rigid or soft & flexible?

Response by poster: It was kind of soft - I thought it was palm bark too but it has that stem and “seeds” on the inside

You will want to eliminate the possibility of it being a sago palm as these are highly toxic to dogs. There is a Facebook group for emergency fungus and botany ID (often used by vets) in case you want to make sure.

The group mentioned above is called Poisons Help: Emergency Identification for Mushrooms & Plants.

It looks a lot like the dead leaves of my agave plant that froze to death this winter in the Texas storms. It even seems to have a poky thing on the left side of your pic. Are there a lot of agaves where you are? The sap is supposed to be irritating.
