My friend is looking for this story and none of us remember where it is from. A traveler or explorer encountered a house and walked in through the front door. He walked through the house, out the back door and around to the front of the house. He discovered that the front of the house was pinched off and inaccessible. Please help

This isn't quite that, but I wonder if your friend could be thinking of House of Leaves (a house that is bigger on the inside than the outside, and people go exploring in the walls with terrifying results).

Maybe not exactly answering the question, but the story -And He Built a Crooked House- is kinda along this theme..

Which is probably why bleary mentioned in the title that this is NOT the story they're looking for.

I don't recall a "pinched off and inaccessible" element to the Dionaea House, but maybe that's worth a look at some of the various side stories to see if that's what he remembers?

This vaguely reminds me of Dame Eyola's house in the Neverending Story (the book, not the movie), but that's a total guess, as I read it 30 years ago.

Response by poster: He says it's likely he may have read this more than 25 years ago.

Best answer: Could it maybe have been this? I remember reading it aeons ago, and the "pinched off" front rings a bell.

Response by poster: That sounds right to him, and he's going to pick up a collection with it from the library.

Thanks so very much!
