Who's turning my Outlook events into meetings?

I work at a company that uses Outlook and Exchange. I link my iPhone as well as my iMac at home. Everything was working great until lately. I've noticed that many of my events have been somehow converted into meetings. I'm suspecting my recent upgrade to Mavericks to be the culprit here. This brings to mind two important questions.
1) How do I stop Mavericks from doing this? Is there a setting I missed?
2) Outlook seems unwilling to convert a meeting back to an event even if I delete all the attendees (which are me, of course). Is there any way short of deleting and recreating them to do that?
