What does Curt Schilling wear around his neck?

What is the significance of this necklace worn by Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling?

I know he also wears a cross, but that's not what I'm talking about. This cord-like necklace seems to also be worn by other MLB pitchers. I've seen Matt Clement and a few other Red Sox pitchers wear something similar, and White Sox pitcher, Freddy Garcia, was wearing one the other night. One idea is that it is a device collecting biometric data, and the other is that it has some Christian meaning.

Best answer: I believe it's a Phiten titanium necklace.

The product's page.

In a similar (jugular) vein, what's the thing around Manny Ramirez' neck in this image. It looks like a single thread choker with a small tab attached to it. I recall the tab being roughly square, but in this image it is clearly round. Religious item?

My wedding band and engagement ring are both made of titanium, and I haven't noticed any changes in my athletic ability or stress level. I suppose if you believe in something, though...
