Portfolio: maintaining my own chaos

I'm using Extensis Portfolio to catalogue nearly 4000 photos for a project. But I can't figure out how to save a gallery in the order I want.
The manual and various FAQs explain how to save galleries with all kinds of borders, colours and doodads - but not simply how to save an order. Whenever I go back to a gallery it pops back into document order (or however I tell the app to order it automatically). Is there a way to make it preserve the order I've dragged the images to myself?
