Help us find a specific anthology containing "Rikki Tiki Tavi"?

Looking a for children's book bought in the late sixties, but possibly older, that contained "Rikki Tikki Tavi" and was possibly titled something about "By Land and Sea." Any ideas?

My mother-in-law had a favorite book when she was a child that we are trying to help her find. What she remembers about it is that her mother bought it for her used in the late sixties, so it could be older than that. She remembers it having the Kipling story "Rikki Tikki Tavi" in it, and that the title might have contained some variant of "By Land and Sea."

Other things she remembers:
--it was a hardcover book
--it had black and white illustrations
--the cover was green with a boy and spyglass
--it was a book containing short stories (but doesn't seem to be "The Jungle Book" itself)

We've spent the morning trying to google our way toward the book, but haven't been able to find anything that even looks close to her. I know the details here could apply to a lot of books from that era, but if anyone has any ideas, we'd love some help. Even some good places to look further ourselves would be great. Thanks in advance!

Could it have been one of Kipling's Land and Sea Tales books? You can them on this page and on this. The edition she remembers (green with a spyglass) is not there but you know how books are; reprints usually have new covers.

I think Rikki-Tikki-Tavi is in The Jungle Book - so this must have been an anthology, either of all Kipling or mixed. Kipling's Land and Sea Tales doesn't include the Rikki-Tikki-Tavi story - see contents here. Does your mother-in-law remember whether all the stories were by Kipling?

I think I remember this, and it was one volume of a larger set, like the Childcraft books.

Response by poster: I agree that it's probably not Land and Sea Tales, as that was the first thing I thought as well, but I also saw that it doesn't contain "Rikk-Tikki-Tavi," which she's adamant was in the book-- That's why she loved it, she says. Unfortunately, she's not sure whether it was all Kipling or mixed, although my guess is that it was an anthology of some sort, since it wasn't The Jungle Book.

I'll look into the Childcraft books too-- Thanks!
