Page-turners to smear with sunscreen and red wine

Bookfilter: Mrs. Inkoate and I are going on vacation and need appropriate reading material for the trip. We are looking for the literary equivalents of the Thomas Crowne Affair to read while we're away.

Thomas Crowne Affair has all the traits of the sort of books we want to be absorbed in while sitting on our cliffside balcony at Cinque Terre or sunning ourselves on a sailboat of Santorini (yes, feel free to hate us): fun, sexy, adventurous, engaging, a little bit of thriller/mystery. We want absorbing page turners that make us gasp and grin. Mrs. Inkoate's alternate phrasing: if Bourne Identity and Eat, Pray, Love (the books) married and had very successful offspring, this would be what we want to read stacks of while on vacation.

P.S. We did read several of the books recommended in the previous question to "prepare" the trip--they were great.

I've been enjoying the Kick Keswick series of mysteries - she's a retired jewel thief who keeps getting sucked back in. They're great fun, but they skew a little older and are a bit girly.

The Millenium Series - The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and the 2 sequels. Compelling, fun, long, smart...

Several by Thomas Perry absolutely fill the bill, particularly "Metzger's Dog" and his latest, "Strip." Especially "Strip."

And if you can fill in the "sexy" from magazines or something, absolutely any and all of Donald E. Westlake's Dortmunder series. Start at the beginning, "The Hot Rock," and just keep going.

Mr. Kestralwing thinks that Elmore Leonard would meet your needs; I find him not so engaging. You could give him a try, anyway.

Maybe this - If Tomorrow Comes by Sidney Sheldon?

Quick read, con artists and their escapades, some romance, and a bit of traipsing all over the world.
