ISO7816 reader in a SD slot?

Is there such a thing as an ISO7816 reader that fits in a SD card slot?

I have a laptop. I would like to use ISO7816 (SIM-sized, ID-000) tokens with it. Small USB readers exist and work well, but they stick out of the case a good distance, which is awkward and seems fragile. However, my laptop also has an SD card reader slot that I rarely use, and it looks like it would be physically possible to build an ISO7816 reader that fits completely or mostly inside the slot— much like a MicroSD adapter does. It could talk to the host with SDIO.

So what I'm hoping for is a reader that (a) exists and is purchasable by mortals, and (b) has a documented interface, so that there's a chance I can get it to work with my Mac instead of whatever ancient version of Windows it was designed for.
