The wiring in this house is shocking!

Please recommend an electrician in the Chapel Hill/Triangle area that you know is good and can perform a house inspection.
We are in the process of purchasing a house. Yesterday afternoon we had the home inspection, which went decently well. One thing that I found troubling, however, was that the electrical work was clearly all done by the previous homeowner (now deceased).
The home inspector assured us that the electric isn't dangerous, but he called it "the most unique electrical set up" he has seen. First of all, there are GFCIs on almost every outlet in the house (including master bedroom, dining room, etc). Fine, but weird. But what's extra weird is, for example, that a GFCI in the master bathroom can short out a light in the dining room (2 rooms a way). Basically the GFCIs all seem to be somehow connected to remote locations.
I don't know what to think about this, and I was thinking that we should just hire an actual electrician to have a look at the set up so we know what we are getting ourselves into.
Can anyone recommend?
