Fast, furious, entourage.

This past weekend was Grand Prix weekend in Montreal. Living here, it's kind of weird to see the influx of fast luxury cars on city streets. Over the years, I've heard rumours here and there about the Grand Prix entourage - that is, people who basically spend their lives going from Grand Prix to Grand Prix, wherever it's held, and partying around it. They aren't, in any real way, associated with the Grand Prix. Apparently they are just young and rich. Where can I go to read/learn more about this (mythical?) group of the fast & delerious?

If such a group exists - and I doubt it does in a meaningful way - it may have an overlap with the kind of person who hangs about the Gumball Rally.

But the F1 season is eight months long. Lots of places it goes to aren't party central (by international playboy/girl standards). The cost alone would be ruinous unless you could find a way to fund flights from your base to and from the various cities.

In short: there may be some people who hop from Spain to Monaco, or Spa to Monza, but I doubt there is a group of people who follow the entire circuit.

Years ago I had a couple of petrol head friends who said if they ever won the lottery they'd follow the grand prix around... but I don't know if there's a formal group or just an extension of things like the jet set.

It's all nouveau riche Americans you're seeing who are driving up for the weekend to show off their awesome cars.

I doubt any American or European "jet-setters" would bother to rent exotic cars to drive around Montreal for two or three days. They would just fly in and rent a regular car to drive around town or just take cabs.

They also have sort of a inpromptu car show where they close off Crescent St. It's mostly Ferraris and other exotics. That's probably what you are seeing. You're seeing them drive to and from that little exhibition they set up there every year.
