Why is it so hard to find Philly mint quarters on the West Coast?

Why are State Quarters from the Philly mint so hard for me to find nowadays?

In 1999, I bought a "State Quarter" book, with 100 blank entries, two for each quarter. One for the Denver mint, one for the Philadelphia mint.

I understand that the mints release the quarters to banks geographically close to them, and since I live in Los Angeles, it makes sense that I would see a lot of "Denver" quarters.

For the past few years, though, my experience is that the Philadelphia quarters are harder and harder for me to find. When I first started, I had no problem filling in each year shortly after it was complete. But in recent years, no such luck. I have only a handful of post-2005 Philadelphia mint quarters. I go through a relatively constant amount of quarters for laundry reasons.

Is this just my perception / my bad luck, or is there some deeper reason I'm having such trouble filling in those last twenty or so spots in my book? (And have collectors on the East coast noticed a similar phenomenon with the Denver minted quarters?)

Well, some quick googling shows no decisive reason why you might have experienced a change in availability, but who knows. However, I can tell you it's not just your bad luck. I keep an eye out for coins for a collector in my family. When I lived in Austin it was near impossible to find a Philly quarter. Now that I'm in Louisville it's the exact opposite. I don't think I've seen a single Denver coin here since I started paying attention. My advice is to make a friend on the other side of the country! Maybe your previous experience finding Philly coins out there was an anomaly.

I am in Rhode Island and I never see Denver quarters. MeMail me and maybe we can work out a swap!
