Big Wooden Floor in NYC?

I'm looking for what amounts to a Very Large basketball gym in NYC somewhere, that can be rented once a week for a few months.

Previously, we've used the gym at the YMCA in Chinatown. It's good, but we want bigger, as in more floor space. And, about the same gymnasium-rectangular shape/aspect ratio.

Any suggestions?

Harlem Tennis Center, 143rd next to Harlem River Drive, is big.

I don't know their policy for rental.

I went to a friend's party at the Children's Aid Society's location at 60 Lafayette Street. It was pretty sweet, and they were cool with booze being there. Their website is here. I can get contact info if that is something you'd be into. Just send me some MeFi Mail.

Response by poster: Just to clarify:

1. We pretty much need the wooden gym floor. The tennis courts would work, but we'd need to get rid of the nets and the posts that hold them up - which I don't think we can do.

2. We want bigger, but not *too* much bigger. We probably wouldn't rent out a whole armory, for example. More like an additional 10-20 feet on all sides would be perfect. Which probably means it doesn't exist. :)

Thanks so far! Keep 'em coming!

Would you be doing anything that might damage the floor?

It might be worth checking with NYU's Coles Sports Center to see if they rent our their gyms and what the rates/availability are. It's easy to reach via pubtrans and looks to have the kind of facilities you're talking about.
