Looking for Hot Fiction!

Looking for good sexy action novels. Not really interested in porn or erotic fiction where sex is the primary conceit; rather I am interest in action, thrillers, suspense, etc., but with a healthy dose of sex. Not really interested in romance either; I tried Jacqueline Carey and Emma Holly but could not get into them. I will try any other genre though. Sex with Aliens? Yeah -- that sounds interesting. I liked the Species movies. Sex with Vampires -- sounds biting. I enjoyed True Blood. I guess I am looking for good erotic thrillers in print but something I can take to the pool without looking too much like a pervert. Bonus points if it comes in an audio version so I can listen at work. Thanks!

Have you read the James Bond books?

When you say you enjoyed True Blood, do you just mean the tv show? Because the books the show is based on -- the Sookie Stackhouse series by Charlaine Harris -- is pretty good. (And contains more sexy sex than the tv show, to be honest.) They all come in paperback, and in audiobook. (And reading the paperbacks at the pool won't make you look like a perv.)

You might like A Reliable Wife.

The Anita Blake series by Laurell K. Hamilton sounds perfect for you. The books are set in a version of St. Louis where vampires and werewolves are legal citizens, and the main character is a zombie-raising detective. There is, of course, a romantic/erotic twist, and about 4 books in, the sex gets way raunchier (in a good way). I have turned all my girlfiends on to these books, and they all love them.

I read a bunch of Robin Cook in middle school, and Sphinx stands out in my memory as having a bunch of steamy scenes. Also, Stranger in a Strange Land, or a lot of other Heinlein books.

If you're okay with sci-fi, look into Altered Carbon by Richard Morgan. Great action, tasteful, well-done sex scenes.

About the Anita Blake books, only some of them would qualify as "erotic thrillers":

There 17 books in the series. Books 1-5 there is sexual tension but little or no sex. Books 6 to 9 there is sex; these would be the "erotic thrillers". However, from book 10 on sex takes over the books and they are pretty much porn. See this review of the series up to 15. However, book 16 does cut down on the sex. And book 17 just came out, so don't know how much sex there is in that one.

Pick up one of Laurell K Hamilton's Merry Gentry books. If you like those then you'll like post book 9 Anita Blake.

Best answer: Octavia Butler's Lilith's Brood series is full of super creepy (like, skin-crawlingly creepy), but nevertheless disconcertingly hot alien threesomes. If that's what you're into.

Trevanian's Shibumi has action. Both kinds.

Man, have I got a treat for you. J. Daniel Sawyer's Antithesis series just finished podcasting its first book. It's a full production audio book--voice actors, sound effects, and a tremendously good soundtrack, not to mention a fantastic story. And, as requested, there is sex.

If you've never read any Anne Rice, she'd be worth a try. I've only read Queen of the Damned, (I think that's book 2 of the whole Vampire Lestat series) but really enjoyed it. She's a very sensual writer. Not really sex so much as sex transmorgified into blood lust. I believe she's also written some erotica, under a pseudonym.

Stephen King's The Dark Tower series - they are so good. I know the common conception of King is that he's all horror, all the time, but he's really not. They are fabulous books. (Although the first one, the Gunslinger, is a little bit slow. But if you stick with it, you won't regret it!)

The Dark Tower series, while fabulous, has almost no sex at all, that I recall. There's one scene in I think the third book that involves semi-explicit (definitely somewhat horrific) sex, another creepy and brief "virginity testing" scene in the fourth book, and possibly some mentions here and there, but that's it, that I recall.

(It is fabulous, though!)

Jacqueline Carey's "Kushiel's Legacy" series has as its heroine a courtesan who is a devotee of a demigod whose command is to "Love as thou wilt". I liked it and thought it was sexy, and it's not filled with continual sex. Also, her (the heroine's) specialty is masochism, so it's not just vanilla sex.
