Restaurants in East or West Village, NYC, with HEAT LAMPS?
Yes -- just that. Want to have lunch in a nice spot, sitting outside near a HEAT LAMP! This appears hard to search for!

Chili Filter: how to reduce the tomato-y taste
Made some chili using almost identical ingredients to previous batch that tasted much better, but this more recent time I did use 1 extra can of crushed tomatoes. It's certainly edible, but it is very tomato forward. Wondering what can be added now, post-cooking, to chill out that tomato taste. [more inside]

Toddler friendly dishes with shredded chicken
Hosting a handful of international toddlers for lunch. None have dietary restrictions except for, well, the preferences of being a toddler. I have boiled a whole chicken and will shred it. Enchiladas would be too unfamiliar for the guests, so I'm thinking a pasta or rice based dish, but this is not my kind of cooking. Ideas?

How to make burnt chili taste less gross
I made a very large batch of vegetarian chili and left it on low heat with the lid on...then proceeded to walk away and get distracted. When I took the lid off, smoke had filled the pot. The chili did not look burnt, even at the very bottom but it smells and tastes burnt. [more inside]

Vancouver BC restaurants for birthday celebration
I'm going to Vancouver for a quick overnight trip to celebrate my birthday with my family. We'll arrive before dinner, and leave sometime after lunch the next day (but possibly after another dinner). I and one son have no dietary restrictions, but my wife is currently on a restrictive diet -- no gluten, no dairy, no egg -- and my younger son is a super picky eater (no hot vegetables :-/). Can you help us find places where we can all eat celebratory food? We'll be in the West End.

Separation anxiety, chicken wings edition
When splitting chicken wings into their three parts, do you have a foolproof method for getting clean separations at the joints, with no jagged edges? Whether with poultry shears or a knife, and despite having watched several YouTube videos, I get it right on some of them but can’t find the right spot on others. [more inside]

Help me take these sundried tomatoes from dry and sad to delicious.
I have a bag of sundried tomatoes (the dried kind, not the packed-in-oil kind) and a desire for sundried tomato tapenade. How do I make this happen? [more inside]

Looking for a recipe for sweet crystal dumplings
Does anyone have a recipe for this type of zongzi? Grandkid loves it and asked me to try making it. They like the clear wrapper. I haven't eaten it myself so I don't actually know what it is like. I'm planning to start with red bean paste filling. I'll be near a pretty well-stocked Asian market at the end of the week. Is there a different word for this to help in online searching? Thanks so much!

Onigiri fillings?
I've been buying onigiri a lot but they seem makeable to me, so I bought some nori and a little triangle mold thingy. I'm looking for ideas and recipes for fillings to put in them. I'm not vegetarian but I don't much like cooking meat. (The place I get them has some really good ones like shishito peppers in some kind of miso situation.) Got any ideas for me?

We were gifted cheese with cherries in it. Now what?
The cheese is mild tasting but the overall property of the cheese is sweet, so the cherries must be sweetened. It's not to our taste but I don't want to throw it out. Any suggestions for putting this cheese in a recipe of some kind? My google-fu has failed me. Thank you!

Multi-login cloud-based recipe storage
My partner and I are looking for a cloud-based solution to manage our ever-growing recipe collection. It does not have to be designed specifically for recipes, but it does need to meet some recipe-related criteria. Snowflakes inside. Do you have our ideal solution? [more inside]

Help me with this doomed vegetarian chili effort.
I am trying to make Texas-style chili with TVP in place of meat. It is, predictably, missing something, namely a certain heft that probably comes from fat and other tissue. Thoughts on how to round this thing out, more in terms of texture than flavor? [more inside]

Help identifying this mystery spice used in an african peanut stew
A friend was given this spice and instructions on how to make this stew while traveling in Ivory Coast. But she was not told what the spice was, and we've struggled to figure it out. [more inside]

Pimp my rice!
For the past 8 years, I've been eating something I call "chili rice" which is rice and beans and corn and chili powder. I'm now looking for other interesting flavors to add to rice (or quinoa! I made "chili rice but with quinoa" recently and it was good). What other (preferably meatless) rice dishes do you love? I also make risotto. [more inside]

Hot chocolate powder + hot water + powdered milk = explodes???
What is different about this exact hot chocolate-making process, in comparison with previous, that made an absolute mess? Have I just previously been lucky? Is it likely to occur again? [more inside]
Make something different with Chili Ingredients
In honor of the Fargo Season 5 finale I was going to make chili with Bisquick drop biscuits tomorrow. To that end I have a pound each of turkey and beef, some jalapenos and I made a pot of beans earlier today. Separately, we've had a death in the family recently and as such people naturally want to drop off food. I've just been told that friends of ours are bringing vegetarian chili over on Tuesday. Very simple healthy food, for one?
I eat a shocking amount of dairy and eggs. A lot of the rest of my diet is occasionally eating out, or frozen pizza. It sucks. I need to eat better. I don't have a lot of spoons. What can I "make" with very low investment in time and energy? [more inside]
