The Large Hadron Collider's date for fully operating the device has been set for September 10, 2008. Considering every endeavor has a margin of error, I'm just wondering, metaphysically, who do we blame if there is a catastrophic mistake?

I mean, we could go on and on ... who will care; there won't be a mistake; what good is it to be human if we don't take chances; the world won't end until God says so ... But to me, this is the ultimate "How much are we responsible for the actions of ourselves and others" question. When we pass someone asking for money, some might say, "They should be working," or "They'll squander it," or whatever. When that little girl was killed in NY in the 60's, and a study was done that showed dozens of people heard her and did nothing. When Rwanda was on the verge of genocide and the world knew and did nothing. When Srebrenica was happening and nobody stopped it. Besides the question of just because we can do something, should we?, to me the larger questions are the two I ask above.
