Therapy Speak. What phrases from bad therapists leap out and annoy you?
I was trying to think today of the trite phrases therapists have been using for years that annoy the shit out of me. The one I remember was "You need to take care of you." I live in Los Angeles, and I would hear my industry acquaintances say this all the time as an excuse to be selfish. I felt, for a long time, that that particular phrase was most often said to the wrong person. And, for me, I have always felt we need to take care of each other (our loved ones I mean). Not to neglect myself, but, love requires extending yourself and being uncomfortable in order to do things to help or support the people you love. So, what therapy speak phrase annoys you?
