What favorite book or book series would you like to see made into a movie?
There have actually been some great book to movie translations. I feel like some really great individual books and book series still haven't been transfered over. Some of my own personal examples would be:
Ender's Game - I mean who read that book and didn't want to watch the anti gravity team matches??
The Dark Tower series - Roland? The Gunslingers? The quest across time and world to find the dark tower! Come on...
The Wheel of Time series - Great epic story, good and evil magic, awesome heroes, nasty creatures/encounters.

This is kind of a funny question. Wheel of Time, really? That movie would be like, 120 hours long.
Sword of Truth could probably be distilled into a cool movie. There would need to be a focus on the nuns/sand though, and cut out most of the first 2 and last however-many books.
Although this wasn't a particularly good book, I think Dead Lines would make an amazing movie.

Enders game is being made into a movie, but I don't think its gonna be that great. The dark tower would be neat, check out the Dark Tower comics that came out fairly recently they are very nice.

Response by poster: A Song of Fire and Ice saga? If you cut out all the repetitive "as the wheel turns" repeats the story would shorten a bit but yeah I would still pay to watch it.

Wait, so how will we know what's the right answer? Maybe Ask Mefi is the wrong place for this kind of question.

Before deletion, I nominate the Dark Tower, no question. If they ever finish a song of ice and fire, that would rock. And the Kusheline Legacy would be one of a kind.

Response by poster: I guess your book to movie answer would be your own "best" answer.

Winds of War/War and Remembrance
They got the TV miniseries treatment but I bet they could revisit

HBO bought the rights to a Song of Ice and Fire to make it into a one-book-a-season series. Whether it actually gets made or not is another story.

The Book of the New Sun, though a successful mounting would require a 10-figure budget and the resurrections of Andrei Tarkovsky and Fritz Lang.
Happy deletions!

I agree with Sword of Truth- the first novel only- could be made into a wicked cool action flick. The first book can easily stand on its on and the series goes to crap anyways.
I don't thnk SOFAI would work well as a movie. Too many bloody plotlines going on at once, Plus, part of the beauty is the storytelling which would be totally lost on any movie experience. Then again, same thing was said for LotR movies which I love so meh.
Upon preview, I could definitely see it working as a mini-series. Much easier to break up the individual plotlines that way.
Dark Tower's one of those things which would be totally awesome or 100% lame I fear. If Clint Eastwood were still in his prime, I'd be all over this. But now, I dunno.
I'd enjoy Peter Jackson directing some old-school Dragonlance. Nothing like some magic, dragons, elves, and knights for a LotRv2

Scaramouche. Swashbuckling, roving thespians, class conflict, mysterious parentage, and a twist ending. What else would you want?

I'd love to see a movie version of the MeFi FAQ, most importantly the subsection about ChatFilter.

Before this get deleted: Harry Turtledove's World at War aka Aliens vs. Nazis etc during WWII. It would have to be a miniseries or series of three movies just to get the first three books.

I heard HBO was interested in Ice and Fire. As long as SciFi doesn't get ahold of it.

Body and Soul (by Frank Conroy) would be entirely plausible to do and make a reasonable movie, I think.

2nd Infinite Jest. Also "A Confederacy of Dunces" , Burroughs's "Cities of the Red Night Trilogy" (though it would certainly come out an absolute mess) , Midnight's Children

I'd love to see MeFi (okay, so it's not really a book so it breaks the rules, but this is a rulebreaking post, so.....) made into a movie.

Nearly every time I read a Terry Pratchett book, I think about what a great movie it would be. I'm stupidly excited about recording Hogfather tonight.
