The Cooler

I saw the The Cooler last night. Great idea for a movie, lousy script, IMO. My question: Do Coolers really exist? Or are they, as the movie suggests, a thing of the past. Does anyone here believe they have the bad luck it takes to become a Cooler?

Pure fantasy of course. But take a look at last year's Intacto which exists in the same universe and is quite an engaging movie, in my opinion.

I second the recommendation for Intacto.

The idea for the cooler character comes from actual superstitions of casino gamblers. Many of them believe that having certain people around them accects their gameplay. Certain high-roller types have engaged in Bobby Fischer-esque tantrums as a means of influencing their hand.

I have very bad luck with dice, but it unfortunately doesn't appear to be contagious.

My record: in the game Illuminati, the best possible roll you can get is ten or less on 2d6. I had a game where I rolled 11 or 12 (for the win) 5 times in a row.

I make that about 1 in a quarter million.
