what words or phrases have the name "joel" in them?
January 6, 2022 3:25 PM   Subscribe

if i wanted to be a trans person with a name like this ("“trans people with seemingly average shorthand names for absolutely insane full names” for example. max short for Maxwell House Brand Coffee Filters"), what else could i expand "joel" to?

or just a "joe" sound. "changeover" is my favorite option from this site searching dʒ + oʊ because the "joe" sound is accidental and i would love more multiword phrases like that.

i also love cajoleries and jo(via)l as options.

i'm also extrememly open to mispronouncing "gol" like in "golf" because that would be funny

Best answer: I'm not sure this is what you're getting at, but Joel could be short for "Joel, but not the one played by Tom Cruise in the movie Risky Business".

Best answer: This might not be quite long and silly enough, but there's always "Joe Mama." I love this idea and will be trying to think of more!

("Jolene, Jolene, Jolene, Joleeeene" - using all four?)

Are you trans or non-binary yourself? If not, this phrasing* feels kinda transphobic at worst and ignorant at best. If yes, then please excuse my questioning.

That said, How about just asking for long, creative, unique multi-art name suggestions like "Max short for Maxwell Brand Coffee Filters"?

*using words like "absolutely insane", etc.

I think it’s going to be hard to top Pasta e Fagioli, which, at least among my family/neighborhood, is pronounced Pasta Fajoel (soft j), making it even more perfect.

Best answer: Joely Fisher comes to mind for me.

I have the first name “Joe” … similar but not the same. Joe Mama is common. As is getting the song “hey Joe, where you going with that gun in your hand” … and I’ll mention in passing cup of joe (for coffee) and “regular Joe” as also being close. My last name starts with “C” so I would get “Josie” and as a kid I’d get “Josie and the Pussycats”—which makes me think if you look for things in Spanish—Joe plus “el” or “ella” you may find other interesting ones.

This question is silly and I like it.

"Schedule" is another good one from the phonetic word search ("dʒ ʊ l")

That one could lend itself to a longer phrase like "I've got too much on my schedule to worry about this"

jolie laide -- French phrase meaning something between ugly/pretty and unconventionally attractive. "Joel" should be said as an American but the full name should be said in a very extra French accent.

You might be able to do something involving a famous Jojo? Some that come to mind are:
- JoJo's Circus, a preschool TV show from the mid-aughts
- JoJo, singer of "Leave (Get Out)", a teenage anthem from the mid-aughts
- JoJo Siwa, who the kids are apparently into these days
- Jojo Rabbit, the Oscar Award-winning Holocaust dramedy dir. Taika Waititi
- Trader Joe's Joe-Joe's Sandwich Cookies, off-brand Oreos

If Joe works, then I'm disappointed nobody has mentioned 'Where Did You Come From Where Did You Go, Where Did You Come From Cotton-Eye Joe'.

ETA: I should have googled the song before I suggested it; never mind.
