Cognitive Behavioral Therapist in New York City that takes Aetna insurance? [MI]

I have a very close friend who has dealt with OCD for some time. While living in Boston she had a great therapist who used CBT with her. She'd really like to continue that line of treatment in New York City but has had trouble finding a good therapist for that kind of treatement that takes Aetna insurance. Any help would be appreciated.

Sorry for the obvious suggestion, but has your friend tried looking through Aetna's DocFind?

Response by poster: From what she told me the problem was that they don't differentiate a therapist who does CBT from the more traditional talk therapy approach.

Unfortunately aetna docfind doesn't tell you what type of therapy a psychologist or social worker practices. A surprisingly tinypercentage of therapists specialize in CBT and treating OCD. Most therapists use standard talk therapy. I've tried calling numerous therapists listed on docfind and hardly any did CBT and the ones that did were all booked. Also, would be better to have a recommendation rather than blindly picking anyone out of a directory.

Maybe try calling Aetna? Speaking to a live person can sometimes give you a little more information. Another thing she might do is call and ask one of the therapists or offices listed for some names to try.

Here's a list of CBT providers in New York (and around the country below that). You (or your friend) will likely have to call each one individually to see if they take Aetna.
