Looking for story on why you should buy art when you can't afford it.

A few years ago, there was an article or a post about why you should buy art even when you can't afford it. All I can recall was that it was a woman's story about a painting she loved and saved up for even though she didn't have disposable income.

She also explained why buying art that you love no matter what is important. For some reason, I believe this author was an African American woman. The woman was not an artist herself. I've tried Googling around, but haven't had any luck finding it.

If anyone remembers it or can find it, I'd greatly appreciate it!

Thanks!

Spike Trotman?
Artist Evan Dorkin's response.

I seem to recall her talking more about buying original art. Hopefully this gives you a place to start.

Maybe this HuffPo piece that includes an interview with an African American woman? You Can Afford It... And Other Reasons You Should be Buying Art.

As someone who knows a lot of "starving" artists... would love to see people be more open to buying original artwork.
