Apple headaches

I really don't understand the mess of my texting, icloud, imessaging... and somehow things just keep sharing more info with new software updates...please help!

I am hoping for help from people who understand the interactions between my iphone, macbook, apple id and imessenger, all of which have changed without my changing any settings. How can I make this right? I am what I consider a normal user, in that I just ... text and don't worry about it, but I want more control.
OK, I am not great at explaining this but I'll try my best.
1. At some point, imessaging literally appeared on my macbook air and I started using it.
2. Also at some point, photos from my phone and computer (including screen shots) started saving to icloud ... sometimes. I didn't do anything to make this happen.
3. I often use imessage to text because I prefer the computer keyboard to typing on the phone. Sometimes these messages are from my apple id email. Sometimes they say they're from my name, as it would from my iphone. I can't tell why or when a text will appear to be from "nantucket" or from "nantucket's appleID" because I do nothing different. Normally, all these imessages would also show up on my phone when sent from my computer. Literally today, my imessages to people on android phones stopped working. I don't know if this is relevant. But also literally today...
4. When I sent imessages from my computer, they were sent from my apple ID email AND had a profile picture of me -- just a random one that is NOT a profile pic, but rather just a random photo I took a while ago and texted someone.
5. I sent myself a test imessage and when it arrived on my phone, I clicked on "Info" (or i) to see what it would say about the sender of the imessage, I then saw there was attached a huge range of my photos from my computer just attached to this text in the info about the sender. I have no idea why this happened. I want it to go away. Is it suddenly on all the imessages I've sent?
6. HOW do I get all this sorted out? .. this is insane. How can I fix it? How can I stop photos from attaching to imessages, OR how can I delete them from the cloud so they'll hopefully vanish from imessages I've already sent? I don't want to go through thousands of photos and delete them.
None of this makes sense to me, but can anyone help me figure out what to do?
(Please don't just sent me to a community support/discussion link, I need actual instructions and explanation if possible...)
Thank you in advance.

Are you near an Apple Store? If so make a Genius Bar appointment and show them the messages that seem weird or wrong to you.
