Help us name our second dog maybe?
May 26, 2018 8:41 PM   Subscribe

We pick up our new dog tomorrow, she's a 6 month-ish Corgi-ish mutt. She'll be our second dog.

The new girl looks like this picture and this picture.

Our current dog, who can be seen here unaware of the furball headed his way is a 65 pound hound mix goofball named "Soda" (or, sometimes, "Soda Pop" and occasionally "Sofa Plop").

Do we need them as a "set"? (suggestions like "scotch" or "whiskey" or even "campari" have come up), feels a little too precious no? Also we don't usually go for the people-names-for-pets, but would not rule it out. Cutesy nonsense is fine though!

Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Best answer: You can’t not name her Whiskey.

She does look like she could be a Whiskey.

"Dot" was my first thought when I saw those sweet eyebrow spots.

Friends of mine have a very similar-looking dog named Pepper.

Could she be a fizz, or perhaps a bubbles?

What a pretty girl! You don't have to name your dogs as a set. The name you want is Tralfaz.

Perhaps her long sojourn to find you was analogous to The Journey of Natty Gann? A fine name for one with such moxie!

Pippi Longstocking

Before I was born, Mom had a Springer spaniel named Pippi. She was trained so that if you said, "Take a bath, Pippi; you stink!" she would go jump in the creek. One day, she brought home a Corningware casserole. Mom asked her where the lid was, and she brought that a few days later. So, Pippi has a precedent as a name for smart, sassy girldogs.

I'm fairly certain her name is Dorothy. Dot or Dottie for short.

She's a Whiskey and it's also because all corgis must have names related to the Queen's corgis because that is just what one does when getting a wonderful fairydog. In 1944, Elizabeth was given Susan as a gift on her 18th birthday, Susan begat Sugar who begat Sherry and Whiskey.

Although Sherry is also cute, then you'd also have Sherry and Soda adding a delightful consonance.

Oh, she is a beautiful girl!
First name that popped into my head was Abigail or Abby. Not sure why.
Congratulations on your new family member!

Does she have the corgi bum swagger? She could be Milkshake to pair with your other dog and celebrate the corgi waddle.

You can combine two of the above suggestions for extra rightness. Cherry Valance's real name was Sherri. So you could reference both the Queen and the Outsiders and name this pup Sherry Valance.

I also think snack foods are an excellent blend with Soda and not quite so matchy?

Pretzel is an excellent corgi name.
Pretzel and Soda!!

(Peanut could work too?)

Best answer: Tango! When she gets into something you can call her Whiskey Tango --- Foxtrot :)
posted by onebyone at 7:29 PM on May 27, 2018

Response by poster: I pushed for Whiskey, then my wife suggested Tango, then I saw onebyone's post and it all fell into place. So Tango it is, AKA W. Tango Foxtrot, AKA wtf.

here's a bonus pic of the two working on their branch management
