Title IX Hearing resources for complainants?
January 24, 2018 7:22 AM   Subscribe

I’m involved in a Title IX investigation as the complainant. It seems likely to me that this will result in a hearing. I’m hoping to engage an attorney to help me prepare for that eventuality, but in the meantime, I’d also like to do my own reading so I can begin to think about what I want to say in opening and closing statements, and so forth. All my googling keeps turning up advice for the accused. Is there any good resource about preparing for Title IX hearings that is geared toward the complainant?

It doesn't focus specifically on hearings, but This Title IX guide on Tenure She Wrote is sobering reading. I hope it goes better for you, .

Someone I know who is involved in this from the faculty side suggests that you go to Know Your IX, which can also help direct you to more specific resources, especially location/school-dependent ones.

Different schools and universities vary a lot in their approach to Title IX. Try your best to find an attorney familiar with the players where you are. Good luck.

Also you may want to take your real name, photo, and real email off of your Metafilter profile (as well as other social media) before getting too involved.

Yes, my first and only advice is to get a lawyer. As someone who has seen both sides of this (as both a student and a faculty member): get a lawyer.

If you're hiring a lawyer (you should), then she will probably do openings and closings. You will give your testimony.
