Wolf in sheep's clothing?

While it's common for politicians to have a botox-smoothed forehead, I've noticed several prominent right wing figures with fairly extensive plastic surgery, such as James O'Keefe - who looks like a different person to me in his before and after pics - David Duke and Trey Gowdy. Is it my imagination or is surgery this extensive more common with those on the right? Has anyone read any theories about this? Speculation welcome.

This post was deleted for the following reason: Heya, I get where you're coming from, but this is kind of a charged combo of topics and asking for broad speculation in that situation ends up being more of a discussion prompt (i.e. chatfilter) than a request for concrete answers. -- LobsterMitten

I don't know but I have wondered that too. I have a friend who managed to sneak into a David Duke rally years ago and he said Duke had on full make-up.

There seems - anecdotally - to be a lot more focus on achieving the platonic ideal of looks. You see this in how, for example, a surprising portion of Republican female pundits have their hair dyed blonde. I am entirely unsurprised that this has now extended to plastic surgery. Chasing youth and beauty never ends well.
