Can I run on Rt. 25 in Riverhead, NY?

I will be in Riverhead, NY for a meeting on a weekday in the next few days/weeks and I want to run east on Rt. 25/Main St. for a total of 8-10 miles out and back. Advisable?

I will be in Riverhead, NY for a meeting on a weekday in the next few days/weeks. I am staying at the Hotel Indigo and want to run 8-10 miles (probably more like 8 because of scheduling), starting around 5:30 am. It looks like if I run east on Rt. 25, just past the aquarium and turn around at Riverside Dr., that would be about 4 miles one way. But it's hard to tell from Google Earth whether there are sidewalks, so I wonder if anyone knows:

1) whether there are either sidewalks or a trail along this route
2) if not, whether it's safe to run on the shoulder at that hour and/or
3) whether it's safe to run at all at that hour (sunrise is 5:31, but it may be cloudy/thunderstorms - ignore possible weather concerns, I'll worry about that).

If not, does anyone suggest another 8-10 mile route? Scenic is better (can I run to the ocean!?), but doesn't look promising given the outlet mall/Walmart stuff I see on the map.

I am a fit 40 year-old woman.

Thanks!

Best answer: no - you cannot run on 25.

For reasons 1&2

There is no trail or sidewalk, and I would not want to run on the shoulder there

I was just out there and we drove from the outlet mall to Orient Point. We took Middle Rd to avoid the ugly commercial area and it was all scenic farms. Not sure if that's convenient for you but I'd take a look on street view.

You can look at the Strava heat map set for runs only to see where people go running. Keep in mind that people often forget to turn off their gps before getting in the car so highways often get logged by mistake.
