Are Chinese women in the PRC the most liberated females on the planet?

It is a conundrum for this outsider. On the whole they do not wear makeup and it seems like they don't give a shit about the male gaze. They hold their own. But there are also pretty frilly ones that are more feminine than anything I could have imagined before coming here. So what's the deal?
