Could Today's Pop Divas Take on the Classic Jazz Vocalists?

Pure opinion only, I supppose, but which of the contemporary batch of pop female "divas" could hold their own with the classic jazz vocalists like Vaughn, Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Carmen McRae, et al? I'm thinking not in terms of the music they actually record and perform, but in terms of their talent, range, abilities, stylings, etc? If paired with competent producers, could they turn out *jazz* of interest and merit? My bias: Seems to me a number of pretty good voices are around who keep to the purely commercial road, and never seriously exercise their talent.
