A question of class. How to respond when someone looks down on you

While my vet was checking my dog, we got on the subject of her elderly mother and how she thought many of the caregivers were less than what she called "median" people. As this is my line of work, I was offended and resented her inference and not so subtle class superiority.
Am I being thin-skinned?
Do most people look at caregivers who are not RN's or LPN's as some substandard being who's help is required but not really very valuable?
My vet knows I do this for work, Is she just an insensitive snob or do most people look down on caregivers as "sub median people "?

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hey, there, sorry this happened, but this seems like less a problem to be solved, and more like a discussion prompt (not the purpose of Ask Metafilter), or possible reader poll ("what do *you* think about caregivers"); additionally folks can't say what kind of person your vet really is. -- taz
