What is this little purple flower?

Now blooming on the lawn in New Jersey
The plant is about 7 inches tall
The urn-shaped florets less than half an inch long.
I could not find it in wild- or nonwild- flower lists.
Yep, that's Muscari. They spread pretty rapidly, in case that's a concern for you.

They do spread, but once they have bloomed you mow right over them, and they are lawn, until next spring. There are a couple of other little spring bulb flowers also nice, Star of Bethlehem, and Snow.Drops.

Response by poster: We have snowdrops in bloom now too. They are just lovely.
I am new to gardening. I have decided ground ivy is an attractive ground cover (especially now, with its tiny purple flowers), and not a weed. Also, dandelions. So our lawn is nearly weed-free.
There's just plantain (Plantago Major, not the bananas), mostly at the edges. Wikipedia claims it is edible, but since ours is located in the dog-toilet part of the lawn, I am loath to experiment.

Ground ivy is a delight, and it smells so good!
If you're interested in more lovely tiny spring plants that will naturalize in your lawn and that you can mow over once they're done blooming besides the snow-drops and muscari, take a look at squills and aconite for planting in fall. Crocuses naturalize less easily in lawns, but are dreamy.
