Seeking advice on how/where to open / promote an online design store.

I am helping out my partner with a store for her character designs. Currently, she's got a small, free site at BigCartel, featuring a few of her designs, but she really needs a bigger store presence that won't cost her $$, advice on how / what / where to sell, where to promote her work, etc. She has several other designs which might do well if they found an audience. Have any of you done something similar successfully? Any advice?
