What are some rules/conventions that people arbitrarily enforce?

Hi Hivemind! Does anyone know any examples of rules or conventions that people just seem to enforce even though they are 1) arbitrary and inconsequential, or even 2) inefficient or detrimental (like using the British system instead of metric, or the QWERTY keyboard instead of the Dvorak)? I'm thinking about how people might become "stuck" to certain customs, rules, etc., even when it's unclear how they have a vested interest in them. Thanks!

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hey there, this is sort of wide open and unclear which is likely to result in a lot of chat about things people don't like. If you can contact us within the next half hour or so and let us know the problem you are trying to solve, maybe we can help you with narrowing this down. -- taz
