What Have You Done For Me Lately? (Government Edition)

Without getting into side-issues like intrusions on personal liberty or ROI for my tax dollar, etc., what are some problems that the federal government in the US has solved or mitigated that it didn't first create? Asking for a friend.

I'll start: the ability to drive 200 miles before lunchtime.
