Suggestions for quick, no-fuss suicide method?

I have cancer and it's not looking good. There may come a day when I'm looking at ending my life on my own terms, and I'd like to be prepared for that. Any suggestions for the quickest, least messy, least painful method?

I looked on Ask Metafilter, and the fact that I couldn't find a question like this here already makes me wonder if there's some prohibition against it. To be clear: I do not want to die. I am not suicidal. I want to live, damn it.

But I am sick and I may soon reach a point where I have nothing to look forward to but a long, lingering, gross death. When and if I reach that point, I would like to have the means and method to end my life on my own terms.

I think ideally I'd like something where I can do it and then just knock out seconds later. I don't want to do it and then have a few minutes to panic and regret my choice. I had to put my beloved cat to sleep a while back, and ideally I'd like something like whatever he had. One little shot, and you're gone.

I mentioned this to my shrink, and she said people often use an overdose of morphine. (She was not suggesting I commit suicide! But she got where I was coming from, and understood my intentions.) I've heard the stories about people who try to overdose with a drug, and they end up puking their guts out and dying in agony. I'd prefer to avoid that. I'm looking for the most foolproof, low-drama method of ending your life, whatever it is.

It's all still hypothetical at this point, and I don't plan to rush out tonight and try any of your suggestions. If I reach the point where life becomes unlivable, I would prepare my loved ones to the best of my ability and make my exit as gracefully as I can. But not before then.
