What are some of the dynamics of the patterning of speech in daily life?

Hi, A few years ago I did an Ou Intro to Humanities course. Here's a quote I'd like to discuss...

This is from Book 7 of A103 of the Open University: "Literary language tends to be more concentrated and patterned than everyday speech. Every word has a part to play and many words are deployed in ways which draw attention to their complex or wide-ranging significance to their sound. Literary texts compress words and thoughts, often into highly patterned and structured forms which intensify their effects."

The word which I found most interesting in this quote is "patterning." It does seem to me that everyday speech is also patterned. People often make innuendos almost accidentally when they talk and it seems like the unconscious mind naturally gravitates towards certain layers of meaning when someone is formulating a sentence.

I'd be interested in hearing people's thoughts on this quote and also a discussion of the mental dynamixs of sentence formulation in everyday conversations. I feel my own speech and writing is often patterned in a sexually-repressed way. I'd be interested in people's advice on how I can steer the dynamics of my own thought process so I can edit out these innuendos.

Thanks for any advice on the above. I look forward to a stimulating conversation.
