Android, Firefox, and Metafilter commenting

More and more, I find myself using my Android tablet (2013 Nexus 7) to view and comment on Metafilter. Recently, commenting has become pretty borked. Using Firefox 25.0.1 on Android 4.3, all of my HTML formatting in comments gets rearranged while posting. Specifically, if I put italic tags around the opening quote, when it posts Firefox or Android empties the first closing tag (leaving just empty carats) and appends a pair of empty carats followed by the closing italic tag at the very end of the post. This ends up leaving a pair of carats after the first paragraph and italicizing the whole post. Commenting with Firefox on Android has always been a little testy, but this is outta hand. Does anyone know what's happening. Is it Android? Is it Firefox? Can I fix it?
