Ghosts...... The neverending debate

I had a ghostly experience recently in a house that is well known for having "good ghosts" live there and it got me wondering why no "definitive" proof of ghosts exists.

Everyone has heard some pretty convincing real life ghost stories, and I have always believed in ghosts but had never had a ghostly experience until recently.
I had several instances of the "unexplained" in this house, including hearing children running upstairs and laughing when I was definitely the only person in the house.
An old lady has been spotted there a few times in the master bedroom windown and all wardrobe doors had to be removed in the house because they would fly open of their own accord and the people who lived there were (understandably) terrified.
There is one room in particular in the house that is always freezing and I hate staying there. This is the room where I had my most unnerving experience which included a "presence" sit down on the end of my bed (I thought it was one of the house cats) so when I reached down to pet the cat, I was surprised to find there was nothing there even though there was a pressure on my foot for the next few minutes.
I'm sure that these experiences were supernatural and it got me wondering why there is no "proof" ghosts exist? I mean we have amazing technology these days so why haven't we got absolute proof in one form or another as to the existence of ghosts? Also, I'm wondering what ghoulish experiences YOU have had and how they affected you? (it IS Halloween after all!!)
