Looking for creative ideas to grow my new real estate business.

My wife and I are new realtors in the Los Angeles area and we're trying to brainstorm ways to jump-start our business, raise awareness about our brand, and ultimately gain new customers.
One of the ideas we've come up with is to give away half of our first commission in July to the Fisher House Foundation which provides housing to the families of injured active service military.
I'd like to know what folks think of this promotion and if they have any other ideas that we could use to help get the word out. We're in a highly competitive area, but are extremely hard-working. Any ideas and thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
