What are some of the fanciest charity galas out there?

I'm interested in learning more about high-end charity galas that are out there in the world, the kinds that cost more than $1000 USD a plate. What are the most well-known ones out there? And some of the not so well known ones?
Best answer: Though it's "only" $500/ticket, the Multiple Sclerosis Society Ambassador's Ball is generally regarded as the "kickoff" to the "charity gala season" in Washington, DC.

Best answer: The Black and White Ball to benefit the San Francisco Symphony has been a thing since forever.
Here's their Spring Gala on the 16th. A VIP ticket is $1000.
I went on the more pedestrian $35 ticket in 1984. I had a great time!

Best answer: The Robin Hood Foundation Gala is the ne plus ultra, I think.
It's Monday and tickets start at $3,000.
I've never been :(

Best answer: The Met Gala (also called the Met Ball) was this week. I think tickets started at $5k. The Metropolitan Opera's opening galas start lower, I think, but it depends on how good a seat you want.

Re: scody's comment:
LACMA is a non-profit and therefore is, in fact, a charity. If you don't think the arts (or LACMA specifically) a worthy charity, that's a different story.

Well, I work at LACMA, so I think it's plenty worthy. Because the OP specifically asked about galas "for charity" I was making a distinction between a non-profit institution and a charitable organization, which (though they are related in certain ways) are not automatically the same thing.

Best answer: If one wants to rub shoulders with Jasper Johns and the like -- and is among the 400 invited -- tables at the 2013 Foundation For Contemporary Arts gala can be had at up to $100,000.
