Current Me wishes Past Me had at least taken a screen shot.

Ten years ago, I was active in the movement against the Iraq war in New York City. At a protest, someone took a picture of me which I'd love to track down. I don't know the name of the photographer, but I have some other information. What's the best way to find this photo?

The photo was the "cover image" of The Indypendent's website the day after the protest in question, which was a die-in at Rockefeller Center in late March of 2003.

I'm almost positive that the date of the protest was March 27, 2003, because the coalition that organized the action, which I was part of, was called the M27 Coalition.

Whoever took the photo didn't introduce themselves, and didn't ask me for my name. I only found out about it by checking the site. At the time I wasn't really one for downloading and archiving photos of myself. This was before Facebook, ubiquitious camera phones, and the culture of obsessive self-documentation that ensued.

A few years ago I found the photo again after deep googling. But I don't remember what I googled (it definitely wasn't my name), how deep into the search results it was, or what the source of the image was. I did not save the image, because... reasons? Who knows.

The Indypendent site has an "archive" section, but it looks to be archives of the print edition. I don't think this photo was ever printed, and even if it were, there is no entry for the issue it would have appeared in.

I'm pretty sure the photo was taken by one of several photographers covering anti-war protests in New York City for the Indypendent at that time. I remember there being a small core group of photographers who documented each protest and posted dozens of shots to the site.

Is there any way to find this photo again? Possibly some kind of Wayback Machine voodoo?

(For the curious, the photo is of a mass of protestors. In the foreground is me, age 21, looking angry and self-righteous and protest-y.)

Response by poster: Sorry, guys. The site the photo appeared on is actually the original NYC Independent Media site, not the Indypendent specifically.

That said, this was a decade ago, and obviously the site looks VERY different now than it did then.
