...and then he leaped into the audience and broke my neck

What are your most memorable worst or disappointing concert experiences that were directly tied to the performer(s)?

I'm not talking about that time Uncle Joe felt up your girlfriend, or when your buddy puked all over your new concert tee. I want to hear how the performer(s) made it memorable--possibly even awful--whether they meant to or not.

In the 80s I went to see the B-52s. Opening was this new band called the Red Hot Chili Peppers (poor pairing anyone?). Nobody really cared about them. And then they walked out on stage and said, "We're pretty excited to be here...yeah, we've just been back stage fucking the girls from the B-52s!" If it's possible for a sports arena crowd to all shut up, even for a split second, I'd swear we did. And then we booed. And then the bulk of us left and milled about the vendor area until the end of the set. I've remembered that forever, and told the story a million times.

Less shocking, but still a standout, was the time newbie Norah Jones played a music festival and didn't know how to talk to her audience crowd, long pauses followed by things like "uhh, so how's that fair food...?" So painful. Not her fault; we just felt desperately sorry for her. Contrast that with the time Greg Brown walked onstage, mumbled "hi" and--after a very short set--"thanks" and never spoke another word if it wasn't part of a song. We felt so gypped.

So what are your stories?
