Visited by Deceased Loved Ones

What do you think of people that claim a deceased loved one visited them?

What theory does science have for those who have claimed a loved one has visited them? In some stories, people claim something that is pretty eery. One story of a woman talking to a man she's always given advice to and is pretty close with and him saying goodbye only to have her find out he was pronounced dead a few hours before. Something like that.

Is it just coincidence, in our heads, or something spiritual?

Also, why do some people feel that a loved one has visited them but no other loved ones, why doesn't everyone experience that? I mean, what's the purpose anyways? If they did have the option to give their last goodbyes, why doesn't everyone that has died do it ya know?

(I know I tend to ask these type of questions, it's always been an interest in mine)

This post was deleted for the following reason: This is kind of a grabbag of really subjective stuff that there isn't some concrete scientific position on; I don't think this is going to work at all as an askme question. -- cortex

There is no legitimate scientific theory that supports the existence of ghosts.

Also, note that you always hear these stories after the fact. People often construct events that didn't occur especially during times of emotional stress such as the death of a loved one.

What do I think? I think it's all wishful thinking. If it gives people solice, good for them.

as for people that claim to have "not known they were dead" when the visit occured? I think it's either striaght up bullshit or an urban legand. I have never personally met anyone that had that happen, but I have heard a lot of "friends of friends" who totally have an uncle...

so yeah. All kinds of wishful thinking. but hey, I'm an athiest and a skeptic.
