Lesbian couple wondering what to be for Halloween!

So, my girlfriend and I are looking for something unique or original to be for Halloween. Last year we were Catwoman and Batwoman... it was a last minute costume and not overly original. This year, I'd like to find a fantastic couple costume where people will hopefully know what we are.

Some of my ideas so far:
- two members of the Peaches baseball team (from the movie "A League of their Own").
- Sailor Uranus and Sailor Neptune from the Sailor Moon series. They were lesbian characters (it was censored in North America). The only problem is, I doubt most people know they were lesbians.
- Xena and Gabrielle (it's often been rumoured that they were lesbians).

As for our physiques... she's short, very fit and muscular, dykey style and not very feminine. She has short dark hair. She doesn't like to wear make up or anything like that... but if I want her to, she will let me cover her in makeup and put her in dresses for Halloween. Myself, I'm short, thin(with curves), long blonde hair and very feminine. I love high fashion and like to be glamorous. Often described as a lipstick lesbian (a lesbian that adopts a feminine appearance and typically looks straight).

If you have any interesting ideas, I'd love to hear them! She also doesn't mind being 'the boy' in the costume (ie. if I were Tinkerbell she wouldn't mind being PeterPan).

As a data point, I was out for a stroll some Halloweens ago when I encountered a group of women dressed as the Rockford Peaches and it was the highlight of my year, so I am maybe a little biased but I think you should go with that.

This might be a more "two ladies" idea than a "lesbian couple" idea, but I think it would be hilarious to both dress as Slave Leia and then pretend-fight all night about which one had the "totally original" costume idea first.

I love-love-love the Rockford Peaches idea, though.

Are you familiar with The Venture Brothers?

I've seen some great female versions of the costumes.

Best answer: Anyone that was a remote sailor moon fan knew they weren't cousins. And if you run into people who didn't know, you could inform them.

Popeye and Olive Oil?

Response by poster: Thanks everyone! Yeah, I definitely don't need them to be an 'official couple' costume, just something that goes together.

Roomthreeseventeen: Thanks! That's who she would like to be, but I truthfully can't think of antyhing more boring than being Olive Oil. I hate blending in and dressing plain. She could definitely pull off the bulging biceps though! (the forearms, not so much lol).

You should flip it - be Olive dressed as Popeye and vice versa. She can wear the little black dress and put sailor tattoos on her arms and chomp on a pipe, and you can wear the (adorable) sailor suit.

If you like doing superhero couples, there's Batwoman and The Question (Renee Montoya). You probably already have half of what you'd need for Batwoman, and I've seen convincing versions of the Question using a nude stocking with some sort of lining for the mask.

Buffy and Faith?

Betty and Veronica?

The White Queen and the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland?

Mary Kate and Ashley?

Thelma and Louise?

If you want to play up the lesbian angle, a military theme would be current.

So it's not boring or impersonatey, you could do something like WAC uniforms with name badges "Ask" and "Tell."

Alternatively, depending on your creativity and costume-making skills, you could go as things that are often coupled together, like:

milk and cookies

peaches and cream

good and evil

death and taxes

heaven and hell

peanut butter and jelly

salt and pepper (maybe you go as the rappers?)

democrat and republican

autobots and decepticons

gin and tonic

thunder and lightening

barnes & noble (be sure to dress like you're bankrupt!)

black & decker

abercrombie & fitch

crips and bloods

block and tackle

cut and paste

mad dogs and Englishman

lady and the tramp (okay, two dogs, but still)

pride and prejudice

smith and wesson

...you get the gist.

(Too bad there's not a third person. I've always wanted to get two friends and go as Lawyers, Guns, and Money)

Laverne & Shirley. Poodle skirts, monograms, and your own theme song.

I remember being confused that the girls dated boys as a child, even before I knew what a lesbian was. They seemed like such a cute couple.

The cutest dykely couple costume I ever saw was the year of Brokeback Mountain. They were cowboys, and their toddler was the cutest little sheep.

One of you dresses as a brick.

The other wears overalls.

When asked what you're supposed to be, say you're a bricklayer.

I always like the gender-bendy stuff. Laurel & Hardy, for example.

If you like glaming up and she doesn't you could be the starlet and she could be suited & with earpiece to be the bodyguard. It's always fun to have things where you can play the character for a while. And you can always do the Costner & Whitney versions when you feel snuggly.

Or you could play up the stereotype and be a mover & a U-Haul truck :)

I was going to suggest Harry Potter for her (and Ginny/Hermione/Luna or whoever you like best for yourself), based on Tina Fey's adorable costume on 30 Rock, but then I thought...well, why not Liz and Jenna?

A kitty cat and a bottle of Pussycat Liquor (must read the lable, positively indecent). A rugged cowpoke (dildos in the holsters) and a eyelash-batting cow.

Since all your examples are lesbian couples from obscure television programs, how about Naomi Campbell and Emily Fitch from E4's Skins? Google images Note that this series doesn't shy away from the (underage) drugs, sex, and general fuckwittage; I don't know if you're okay with that.

Light Yagami and L. from Death Note.

Little Red Riding Hood and the Wolf

Bluebeard and his curious but now-dead wife.
posted by DisreputableDog at 8:57 PM on August 26, 2011

Heh, side note: bonus points if you make Bluebeard into a sort of....a woman with a blue beard. Or even put an Asian twist on it; Dress her up in man-influenced but still female finery, like a mandarin collared coat and fur hat, slap the beard on there, a wart on her nose, and it shouldn't be too much makeup.

Make the wife have bloody hands, a bangle bracelet with a bloody key on it, and some sort of cleavage showing a "sword cut" or a line showing a slit throat.

But then...I really like fairy tales, so take with a grain of salt.
