What is friend-promotion etiquette on MeFi?

What is MeFi policy or etiquette on posting about people you know?
Metafilter's own Jennifer Teeter here. I was thinking about when a video of me made it up on MetaFilter, and how that was, ya know, weird, and how I wished it had been something I was more proud of. Then that got me thinking about posting etiquette.
I would never want to post something I did, that seems pretty skeevy; however, I date an artist who does some pretty interesting things. These things might one day make a pretty cool MeFi post. I, in fact, know a lot of people who do cool things. Do you think it's best to just let the internet run itself and not share these cool things, or is friend-promotion acceptable if you are 100% assured that you would make a post about it if you did not know the person?

This post was deleted for the following reason: Hi there -- you can't post about people you know and you can't post questions about metafilter in AskMe. Feel free to email for more info or just post to metatalk or read the faq a little. -- jessamyn
"It's against the rules to link to your own site, a site that you host or contribute to substantially, or a site of someone who is a close friend or relative of yours in a MetaFilter post."

Sorry, misread- self-linking, or linking to friends stuff is not okay with metafilter, but is perfectly good for metafilter projects.

This belongs in MetaTalk, and you want to post it in MetaFilter Projects.

The above comments are incorrect.
Here is what cortex said in response to someone asking about posting a project by their mom: "I'm one of the mods here. The answer as folks have said is no; you'd be banned and your post removed immediately. As a Projects post it'd be okay if this is something you've had a significant creative hand in putting together, otherwise it'd be something your mom would need to get an account and post herself; Projects is for posting stuff you've made, not stuff someone you know has made."

I'd also suggest emailing mods for questions like this.
