More tablets = more Foxconn suicides?

With all these tablet computers being introduced from different manufacturers, shouldn't workers at assembly plants like Foxconn be working much longer hours and be even more stressed out? How can their working conditions actually improve? Shouldn't we be hearing about more suicides from these places?

...or am I missing something?

The Foxconn suicides had basically nothing whatsoever to do with any particular product. Claims to the contrary are both asinine and deeply manipulative.

Er, can't they just hire more workers to increase production rates and/or reduce individual working hours?

Foxconn has been building new factories on a regular basis lately.

What's your obsession with Foxconn suicides?!?!? Coupled with your last question it looks like rubbernecking.

My understanding is that the computer manufacturing industry has been hurting for the last few years because of the recession and plants had to lay off people. Tablet sales have helped some.

Five seconds of thought should tell you that they're going to hire more employees, the way that any business does when they get more orders.

Best answer: Hong Kong based activist group SACOM (Students & Scholars Against Corporate Misbehavior) published an investigative report on May 6, Foxconn and Apple Fail to Fuifill Promises: Predicaments of Workers after the Suicides [PDF].
