Suggestions for cleaning ball caps

Looking for suggestions for washing my baseball caps.
I have a decent collection of baseball-style caps that I wear routinely. Most are not wool caps (I think I only have one wool cap) and the others are cotton or some other material (polyester, etc). Over the course of wearing them, they do get dirty (even though I tend to keep good care of them). I have hand washed my caps before in the sink, but I am looking for some tips on cleaning caps other than hand washing.
I went out and purchased one of these, although I haven't used it yet. I have read MANY articles online about how to wash ball caps, and I get different responses every time. I want to wash my caps in either the dishwasher or the clothes washer. Some people say to NOT use detergent and others say to use detergent when washing caps.
Just wondering what suggestions/tips people here might have that you can pass along to me. Thanks,

I have always just dropped them in the wash with everything else. Only special thing I have done is rolled the bill and shoved it in a coffee mug to dry. That way it dries with a nice curve rather than being bent in weird spots.

For the wool cap, liquid dishwashing soap (the kind for handwashing dishes) is best, no agitation and air dry.
In fact, you probably want to keep air drying all your caps to ensure they maintain shape, but otherwise I don't think they'd require any special handling.
